The Bee’s Knees

The definition of  ‘the bee’s knees’ is something, or someone, that is an excellent or much liked person or thing. The expression started with a collaboration between a bootlegger and a beekeeper. So that’s where this group is gonna start.

Backyard Bees (the beekeeper) is collaborating with The Better Man Distillery (not a bootlegger, but a totally legit business) to bring you a special edition of our Hands On Honey Workshop.  The workshop will bee hosted at the distillery in Patchogue and we have planned a really unique experience for you.

The Bees Knees Honey Workshop Details

You’re gonna bee busy during your workshop. But there will still bee time to relax and enjoy yourself.

We start with a little history…the history of “The Bees Knees” cocktail!

You’ll learn how to make The Bees Knees cocktail from Abby Grupposo, the head of operations for The Better Man. Noone better than Abby! And of course, you’ll get your own cocktail to enjoy!

Next, you’ll get a look at life inside a beehive with The Queen Bee of Backyard Bees – she will bee the only bee at the workshop. NO BEES ALLOWED, so don’t let that stop you.

You will bee learning how to uncap real frames of honey and working together to harvest some real, raw, delicious honey. You’ll get a little sticky, but it’s worth it. You’ll bee taking a jar of that yummy honey home with you!

Everyone that wants to can help to crank the extractor and you will smell the amazing smell of fresh beeswax, propolis and honey! You will also learn how to infuse honey – with lavender or rosemary for an extra special taste sensation.

While the honey drips down the extractor and through the filtering process, we planned a private tour of the Better Man distillery. You’ll see why The Better Man is the bee’s knees!

We’ll finish up back at the extractor, where you’ll fill your honey jar with freshly extracted honey to take home.
